Vietnam to increase social assistance standards in 2026

Under Decree 335/2026/ND-CP, Vietnam will implement new social assistance and social pension adjustments starting October 5, 2026. The standard social assistance level will increase from 500,000 VND to 540,000 VND per month.

Regarding social pensions, Vietnamese citizens who are not members of poor or near-poor households are eligible for a monthly social pension of 540,000 VND once they reach the age of 75, provided they do not receive a monthly pension or social insurance benefits.

For citizens aged between 70 and under 75, the policy offers expanded support for those in particularly difficult circumstances. This group must belong to poor or near-poor households and must not be receiving a monthly pension or social insurance benefits (or must receive benefits lower than the social pension rate).

To apply for these benefits, individuals or guardians can submit a declaration form via the National Public Service Portal, through postal services, or directly at local administrative offices. Local authorities are required to verify information against national databases within seven working days of receiving an application.
