Vietnam to launch free periodic health checkup program in 2026

Starting in 2026, Vietnam will implement a free periodic health checkup program aimed at early disease detection and reducing treatment costs. According to the service list released by the Ministry of Health, individuals aged 18 and older will be eligible for clinical examinations and basic diagnostic tests.

The program includes clinical assessments such as medical history reviews, blood pressure checks, and examinations of internal medicine and ENT (ear, nose, and throat). Diagnostic services will feature blood counts, blood glucose testing, liver and kidney function tests, urinalysis, and chest X-rays to identify issues like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, and lung abnormalities.

The rollout will follow a phased approach. In 2026, priority will be given to high-risk and vulnerable groups, including the elderly, impoverished households, people with disabilities, patients with chronic illnesses, and residents in remote or mountainous areas. The program is expected to expand to broader population groups by 2028.
