Vietnam to launch its first UNESCO‑recognised photography city by 2027

Vietnam's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced a plan to create the country's first "city of photography," with the goal of establishing it by 2027. The new designation would add to the four Vietnamese cities—Hanoi, Hoi An, Da Lat and Ho Chi Minh City—already part of UNESCO's Creative Cities network.

The initiative seeks to make the photography city a national hub for visual arts, attract international tourists, stimulate investment and develop the cultural‑creative industry. Feasibility studies and consultations are being carried out in several provinces, including Khanh Hoa, Hue, Ninh Binh and Quang Ninh. UNESCO is providing technical support and helping connect Vietnamese stakeholders with partner cities in France and Germany.
