Vietnam to pilot electric three-wheelers for urban logistics
The Vietnamese government has approved a proposal to research and pilot the use of electric three-wheelers for urban waste collection, postal services, and logistics in several major cities. The initiative, proposed by the Ministry of Public Security, aims to utilize the vehicles' small size and maneuverability to navigate narrow streets and alleys that are difficult for standard specialized automobiles to access.
In addition to logistics, these vehicles may be equipped with firefighting and rescue equipment for initial response in densely populated residential areas. The pilot program is expected to last three years with limited scope and quantity, and will be conducted without the use of the state budget. Authorities will work to finalize technical standards, vehicle classification, registration, and driver requirements.
