Vietnam to restructure school network for 2026-2030 period

Vietnam is preparing for a major restructuring of its school network during the 2026-2030 period. This reform is part of a broader initiative to streamline the state apparatus following the implementation of a two-level local government model.

The Ministry of Education and Training is piloting the reorganization of educational institutions, with a goal to complete the process by August 30 to ensure operations for the 2026-2027 academic year. The objective has shifted from simple administrative downsizing to "educational development governance," focusing on efficiency, data-driven management, and improved service quality.

Rather than a mechanical merger, the initiative aims to reallocate resources and enhance management quality. The Ministry is allowing provinces to choose various models based on population density, geography, and transportation conditions. The restructuring will also involve digitalizing management records and increasing autonomy for school principals.
