Vietnam tourism and trade agencies partner to boost shopping tourism

The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism and the Department of Domestic Market Management under the Ministry of Industry and Trade have signed a memorandum of understanding for the 2026-2030 period. The partnership aims to develop shopping tourism to promote Vietnamese goods, regional specialties, and traditional craft products to consumers.

This initiative aligns with national resolutions to establish tourism as a spearhead economic sector by integrating shopping with outlets, duty-free shops, shopping centers, and night markets. Under a government scheme, various outlet models—including luxury outlet villages combined with tourism and urban outlet centers—are planned for pilot testing in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Quang Ninh, and Phu Quoc through 2030.

The National Authority of Tourism has set ambitious targets for 2030, aiming for tourism to contribute 10-12% to the national GDP. The goal includes hosting 45-50 million international visitors and 160 million domestic travelers, with total tourism revenue projected to reach between 80 and 90 billion USD.
