Vietnam trade turnover exceeds $825 billion by mid-September 2026
Vietnam's total goods trade turnover exceeded $825 billion by mid-September 2026, representing a 29.4% increase compared to the same period in 2025. This growth is largely driven by the processing and manufacturing sectors, particularly in electronics, machinery, and equipment.
Despite the strong trade volume, the country recorded a trade deficit of approximately $23.5 billion. This deficit is primarily attributed to a surge in imports, which reached nearly $424.4 billion, a 36% increase year-on-year. The rise in imports is largely fueled by the demand for machinery, components, and raw materials to support industrial production and investment.
Data shows a significant disparity between sectors: while Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) enterprises maintained a trade surplus of roughly $8.7 billion, domestic enterprises faced a trade deficit exceeding $32.2 billion. The electronics and computer components sector remains a major driver, with imports approaching $175 billion and exports reaching $111 billion during the first nine months of 2026. If current growth trends persist, Vietnam's total trade turnover is projected to potentially exceed $1.2 trillion by the end of the year.
