Vietnam traffic incidents see bus fined for red‑light run and truck fire on highway

On 6 July 2026 a 16‑seat black bus traveling north on National Road 10 in Ninh Bình province ran a red traffic signal at the intersection with Đê Sông Hồng road. The driver, identified as Nguyen Xuan Bang (born 1959, Hưng Yên province), admitted the violation and was fined 19 million VND under Decree 168/2024/NĐ‑CP.

On 31 July 2026 a truck travelling south on the Ho Chi Minh City–Trung Lương highway near the Tan An junction in Tây Ninh province caught fire. The driver attempted to extinguish the blaze with a portable fire extinguisher, but the fire spread within the cargo compartment. Fire‑fighting units from the provincial police controlled the fire after about 20 minutes. No injuries were reported, though the vehicle suffered damage and traffic was temporarily slowed.

Both incidents prompted investigations by local traffic police and fire services, highlighting ongoing road safety challenges in Vietnam.
