Vietnam Traffic Police demonstrate proper expressway overtaking procedures

The Vietnam Traffic Police Department has conducted practical demonstrations to instruct drivers on the correct use of overtaking lanes on expressways. Using patrol vehicles on the Cau Gie - Ninh Binh expressway, officers simulated common scenarios such as lane changes, overtaking, and responding to vehicles requesting to pass.

The core principle being promoted is that the leftmost lane, adjacent to the median, should be used strictly as an overtaking lane. Drivers traveling in the right lane who need to pass must signal, ensure safety, move to the left lane, and then return to the right lane once the maneuver is complete. Drivers are advised not to remain in the left lane after overtaking if the right lane is clear.

Observers note that many drivers in Vietnam still struggle with this etiquette, often maintaining high speeds in the leftmost lane and obstructing faster traffic. This habit persists despite efforts by authorities to implement new traffic organization methods on major routes like the Hanoi - Hai Phong and Cau Gie - Ninh Binh expressways.
