Vietnam traffic police tighten safety rules on electric vehicles and road design

In the 2026 summer peak, the traffic police (CSGT) of Đắk Lắk province launched a series of measures to curb illegal modifications of electric bicycles and scooters and to protect students on the road. In the first five months of 2026, the province recorded 184 traffic accidents, 31 of which involved students, resulting in 15 deaths and 15 injuries. The CSGT unit secured commitments from repair shops not to alter vehicle structures, increased patrols, and worked with families, schools and local authorities to raise legal‑traffic awareness.

Separately, the national traffic police department (Cục CSGT) presented research highlighting systemic flaws in Vietnam’s road network—missing safe corridors, broken median strips, and buildings obstructing sightlines that create dangerous conflict points. Officials stressed that beyond patrols and violations enforcement, fundamental redesign of road layouts and stronger local government oversight are essential to reduce accidents at their source.
