Vietnam-Tunisia trade grows amid new import opportunities
Trade between Vietnam and Tunisia is characterized by complementary needs, with Tunisian consumers and businesses showing high appreciation for the quality and competitive pricing of Vietnamese products. Key export categories from Vietnam include agricultural goods, industrial products, and raw materials for the textile, garment, and footwear industries.
Tunisia maintains significant annual requirements for essential commodities, including approximately 30,000 tonnes of green coffee (primarily Robusta), 30,000 tonnes of rice, and 360,000 tonnes of sugar. While these items were traditionally imported exclusively by the Tunisian Trade Office through international tenders, the implementation of Law No. 120 in 2024 allows certain private Tunisian enterprises to receive authorization to import these goods. This regulatory shift is expected to provide Vietnamese exporters with expanded access to the North African market through local private partners.
Despite growth, challenges remain in bilateral trade, including issues regarding business trust, payment methods, relatively high import duties, and the absence of permanent diplomatic or commercial offices in each other's capitals. In the first nine months of 2026, total trade turnover reached $59.43 million, a 9.7% increase compared to the same period the previous year.
