Vietnam U17 women's team wins 20-0 against Northern Mariana Islands
The Vietnam U17 women's national team secured a record-breaking 20-0 victory against the Northern Mariana Islands in their second Group D match of the 2027 U17 Women's Asian Cup qualifiers. This win establishes a new scoring milestone for Vietnamese women's football, surpassing their previous record of 16 goals against the Maldives in 2022.
Head coach Okiyama Masahiko revealed that the team had set a specific goal to score 20 goals prior to kickoff to push the boundaries of the national team's achievements. Despite a period of difficulty in the middle of the match due to inaccurate passing and weather disruptions, the team maintained pressure, scoring 9 goals in the first half and 11 in the second. Individual standout Truong Khanh Chi contributed 6 goals to the tally.
The victory places Vietnam at the top of Group D with 6 points and a goal difference of +26, ahead of Kyrgyzstan. The team's progression to the final tournament depends on their upcoming direct encounter, where a draw would be sufficient to secure advancement.
