Vietnam U23 football team prepares for ASIAD 2026 in Japan
The Vietnam U23 national football team gathered 29 players for a training camp that began on July 29 ahead of the Asian Games (ASIAD) 2026 in Japan. The squad includes goalkeeper Cao Văn Bình, defenders such as Võ Anh Quân, midfielders Nguyễn Xuân Bắc and Nguyễn Thái Quốc Cường, and forwards Nguyễn Thanh Nhàn and Nguyễn Quốc Việt, many of whom featured in the 2026 AFC U23 Championship and international friendlies.
VFF Vice‑President Trần Anh Tú said the tournament is a crucial test for the next generation, aiming to give young players experience against top Asian opponents and to assess candidates for future World Cup 2030 qualification. Coach Đinh Hồng Vinh highlighted the competitive Group C draw with Uzbekistan, Philippines and Kuwait, stressing the need for thorough preparation.
The Asian Games are viewed as a stepping stone toward the long‑term goal of qualifying for the 2030 World Cup, with the VFF focusing on player development rather than immediate results.
