Vietnam U23 squad undergoes changes ahead of Asian Games 2026

The Vietnam U23 national football team has announced roster adjustments ahead of the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. Midfielder Nguyen Cong Phuong has withdrawn from the squad due to an injury that prevents him from meeting the required physical fitness standards.

To fill the vacancy, coach Dinh Hong Vinh has called up Hoang Quang Dung from Hue FC. Quang Dung previously gained recognition playing for the U19 Vietnam team during the 2024 U19 Southeast Asian Championship.

Additionally, goalkeeper Nguyen Bao Ngoc from Song Lam Nghe An has been summoned to replace Pham Dinh Hai. The decision allows Pham Dinh Hai to remain with his club for the National Cup competition. The team is scheduled to convene on September 12 and depart for Japan on September 13. Vietnam is placed in Group C for the tournament, with scheduled matches against Kuwait, the Philippines, and Uzbekistan.
