Vietnam, UK Strengthen Parliamentary Ties in Science and Innovation

A delegation from Vietnam's National Assembly, led by Nguyen Thanh Hai, visited the United Kingdom from 21 to 24 June to examine the UK’s legislative, scientific, technological and innovation practices. The trip aligns with Vietnam’s Politburo Resolution 57‑NQ/TW, which places science, technology and digital transformation at the core of national development, and supports the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the UK established in October 2025.

During the visit the delegation met House of Commons Deputy Speaker Judith Cummins and held a working session with the Commons Science, Innovation and Technology Committee. Both sides exchanged experiences on artificial intelligence, big‑data, satellite technology, personal data protection and regulatory sandbox mechanisms, and discussed how parliamentary hearings can bolster legislative oversight. Additional meetings included Mark Garnier’s Vietnam‑focused parliamentary group, the Vietnam Intellectual Society in the UK and Ireland, Imperial College London, the University of Oxford and the National Physics Laboratory. The parties affirmed their commitment to expand academic exchanges, joint research projects and high‑skill human‑resource development in areas such as AI, quantum technology, data science and advanced materials.
