Vietnam urged to ready projects to draw US high‑quality investment

Vietnamese Ambassador to the United States Nguyen Quoc Dung addressed the 22nd National Conference on External Affairs in Hanoi on August 2, 2026, emphasizing that the benefits of the Vietnam‑U.S. comprehensive strategic partnership, upgraded in 2023, will only materialise if Vietnamese localities translate the framework into concrete investment projects, new supply chains and innovation centres.

He noted that U.S. firms are no longer seeking merely low‑cost sites; they are looking to establish manufacturing facilities, research‑and‑development labs, design and data centres, and high‑tech supply chains in Vietnam. To attract this high‑value‑added foreign direct investment, local governments must proactively build project portfolios, ensure reliable electricity, robust logistics, digital infrastructure, skilled labour, policy stability and transparent, speedy administrative procedures, and provide support throughout a project's life‑cycle.

The ambassador warned that while tax incentives remain important, investors now prioritise workforce quality, infrastructure reliability and the ability of local administrations to partner over the long term. Meeting these criteria could generate quality jobs, technology transfer and stronger economic ties between Vietnam and the United States.
