Vietnam urges provinces to increase fishing vessel participation in eCDT system

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has urged coastal provinces to increase the participation rate of fishing vessels in the electronic fisheries traceability system (eCDT). As of September 1, 2026, following six months of implementation since the March 1 mandate, 48,624 out of 80,209 fishing vessels measuring 6 meters or larger (60.62%) have joined the system.

There is significant regional disparity in adoption rates. Provinces such as Nghe An (97.88%), Quang Ngai (96.42%), and Thanh Hoa (94.89%) have achieved high synchronization. Conversely, participation remains low in Tay Ninh (12.30%), Ha Tinh (17.21%), An Giang (22.14%), and Ca Mau (41.58%).

The Ministry noted that inconsistent data updates and vessel monitoring in certain areas hinder the accuracy of catch volume supervision and origin certification. Local authorities have been directed to review vessel data, identify reasons for non-compliance, and ensure that 100% of vessel movements and unloaded seafood volumes are tracked electronically. Additionally, provinces are encouraged to upgrade fishing port infrastructure to support these digital processes.
