Vietnam Vice President meets UN chief and leaders at SCO summit
On the sidelines of the expanded Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO Plus) Summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Vietnamese Vice State President Vo Thi Anh Xuan held several high-level meetings. Xuan met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, discussing Vietnam’s support for the UN’s central role in international security and the need for UN system reform. She proposed completing the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2027-2031 and requested UN support for high-quality human resource development, green finance, and energy transition.
Additionally, Xuan met with Kairat Sarybay, Secretary General of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), and Togo’s President of the Council of Ministers, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbe. During the summit, Xuan expressed Vietnam’s desire to deepen cooperation with the SCO, positioning the country as a bridge between ASEAN and the organization.
In celebration of Vietnam’s 81st National Day, U.S. President Donald Trump extended congratulations to the nation, highlighting the progress of the global strategic partnership between the United States and Vietnam.
