The blast left him with multiple severe injuries; he was taken to a local health station before being transferred to Chợ Rẫy Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City for treatment. Local police confirmed the incident, warned the public about the danger of unexploded ordnance from past conflicts, and urged residents to report any suspicious items rather than handling them.

Separately, advocacy groups and commentators are urging the Vietnamese government to enact a humanitarian assistance policy for aging veterans of the former South Vietnam (Vietnam Republic) armed forces. They note that many of these veterans now live in hardship, suffer disabilities, and lack social support, calling for a transparent, age‑ and injury‑based welfare mechanism as a symbolic step toward reconciliation and justice.
