Vietnamese actress Kiều Chinh marks 89th birthday and plans 2026 film comeback

Kiều Chinh, born Nguyễn Thị Chinh in 1937 in Hanoi, is hailed as Vietnam’s most celebrated actress. After early success in Vietnamese cinema, she moved to Canada, working as a cleaner before Tippi Hedren helped her relocate to the United States, where she rebuilt her career in Hollywood. Notable roles include the mother in The Joy Luck Club, and she is listed among the top‑50 actors who have moved audiences to tears worldwide.
