Vietnam banks cut interest rates and expand credit packages

Vietnamese banking sector interest rate reduction preferential credit international capital mobilization economic support

Vietnamese commercial banks are implementing widespread reductions in deposit interest rates and launching large-scale preferential credit packages to support economic recovery. Following directives from the State Bank of Vietnam to lower the interest rate floor, major institutions including VPBank, Sacombank, MSB, and Agribank have announced various relief measures.

VPBank has introduced a 1.5 percentage point reduction for key sectors and allocated 10 trillion VND for small and medium enterprises. Sacombank is deploying a 20 trillion VND package for individuals and a 40 trillion VND package for businesses. Agribank has also adjusted lending rates by up to 2.5% for existing debts and is offering a 70 trillion VND credit program for priority sectors.

To supplement domestic liquidity, banks are increasingly tapping into international capital markets. HDBank recently secured a 721 million USD syndicated loan from the Asian Development Bank and Standard Chartered, while VPBank finalized a 1.44 billion USD sustainability-linked loan. These international inflows aim to reduce reliance on the domestic banking system and meet the high capital demands of the national economy.
