Vietnamese chives leaf and bitter melon highlighted for digestive and metabolic health
Chives leaf, a common summer vegetable in Vietnam, is rich in dietary fiber, vitamins A, C, K, folate, potassium and sulfur‑containing antioxidants. Nutrition experts say the fiber promotes bowel movement and can ease constipation, while the antioxidants support immune function and may aid liver health when part of a balanced diet.
Bitter melon, also widely used in Vietnamese cooking, contains vitamin C and bioactive compounds that have been shown in studies to help regulate blood‑sugar levels in type‑2 diabetes, lower LDL cholesterol, reduce inflammation and exhibit antimicrobial activity. Research also suggests potential anti‑cancer effects, though side‑effects such as abdominal discomfort, diarrhea or drug interactions may occur, so medical advice is recommended for patients with diabetes or undergoing cancer treatment.
