Vietnamese cinema sees major box office growth in 2026

The Vietnamese film industry is seeing significant box office success in 2026, driven by several high-performing titles. The film ‘Trại buôn người’ has emerged as a major hit, reaching nearly 190 billion VND in revenue by early October. Other notable successes include ‘Hẹn em ngày nhật thực’, starring Đoàn Thiên Ân, which earned over 118 billion VND, and ‘Thỏ ơi!!’, featuring a cameo by Tiểu Vy, which grossed approximately 450 billion VND.

These films have highlighted the evolving roles of beauty queens in cinema. Huỳnh Minh Kiên, Miss World Vietnam 2023 runner-up, has gained attention for her role as Út Đẹt in ‘Trại buôn người’, a character that requires a departure from her pageant persona. While her performance has been noted for its emotional effectiveness in certain scenes, critics have pointed to inconsistencies in high-intensity emotional moments.

Actor Tùng Mint has also experienced a career resurgence through his action role in ‘Trại buôn người’. His preparation involved significant weight loss to enhance agility for action sequences. However, the production was marked by a severe accident during the final scenes, where Tùng Mint was struck by a pickup truck, resulting in serious injuries including fractured vertebrae and a broken pelvis.
