Vietnamese cinema sees record growth and market dominance
The Vietnamese film industry is experiencing significant growth and strategic transformation. Following the Politburo's Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW regarding cultural development, the sector is positioned for long-term strategic expansion, serving to enhance the nation's soft power and international image.
According to data from CGV Vietnam, 2025 was a record-breaking year for the industry. Box-office revenue reached approximately 213.7 million USD (5.6 trillion VND), with over 70 million tickets sold. This represents a 24% increase in revenue and a 29% increase in ticket sales compared to 2024. Compared to 2019, pre-pandemic levels, revenues have risen by more than 35%.
Domestic films have begun to dominate the local market, accounting for 62% of all films released in theaters. This shift indicates a transition from a dependence on foreign films toward domestic market mastery, with industry experts noting a move from quantity toward higher production quality.
