Vietnamese cinema thrives as Guo Tianle faces $19M lawsuit

The Vietnamese film market continues to see strong domestic performance following the September 2 holiday. As of early September, the film ‘Nghi he so nghi huu’ leads the box office, approaching 200 billion VND in total revenue. Another domestic title, ‘Quy tu vuot giau’, has surpassed 50 billion VND. Meanwhile, ‘Ho linh trang si: Bi an mo vua Dinh’, directed by Nguyễn Phan Quang Bình, has reached approximately 32.78 billion VND but is facing increased competition.

In legal news, actor Guo Tianle and One Cool Film Production Limited are facing a lawsuit in the Hong Kong High Court. Sino Hero Ventures Limited is seeking the repayment of over 149 million HKD (approximately 19 million USD), covering principal and interest from a 2019 loan. Guo Tianle’s production company has contested the claims, alleging that the plaintiff’s legal status is questionable and that the company had previously been dissolved for nearly three years.
