Vietnamese cities launch AI education and traffic‑management programs

Ho Chi Minh City’s Science and Technology Department announced the “AI for Citizens” program for 2025‑2030, aiming to train AI knowledge and skills for about 2 million residents – roughly 15 % of the city’s population – by 2030. The rollout will begin with a minimum of 100,000 trainees per year (2026‑2027) and scale up to over 600,000 annually from 2028. Training will be delivered through a network of 168 community digital‑tech groups in every ward, with 29,000 members already trained to teach AI tools, fact‑checking, fraud prevention and data‑privacy. The city also plans to upskill around 1,000 civil‑servants on platforms such as ChatGPT and Gemini and has partnered with firms including Google, AMD and Canva to produce learning material.

In parallel, Hanoi is expanding its smart‑traffic system. From 15 July, 36 large LED screens were installed at key intersections, and a second phase of AI‑enabled cameras added 2,460 units, bringing the total to more than 4,000 across the capital. The real‑time data feed feeds a digital traffic‑control centre that visualises signal‑status maps, automatically adjusts traffic‑light cycles, detects violations and monitors traffic flow, handling over 344 000 vehicle passages in a single day at a busy junction. The system is intended to reduce congestion, improve safety and support broader city‑wide digital governance.
