Vietnamese Consul Pham Hai Anh meets DFAT chief in Western Australia

On 4 June 2026, Vietnamese Consul General Pham Hai Anh held talks with Pamela Currie, Director of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) office in Western Australia, in Perth. The two sides discussed the status of Vietnam‑Australia relations and outlined plans to deepen cooperation in education, science and technology, trade and investment, energy, strategic minerals, high‑tech agriculture and tourism. Pham Hai Anh emphasized the large potential for joint projects and pledged to facilitate exchanges of delegations, strengthen links between local authorities, businesses and communities, and support high‑level visits. Currie reaffirmed Australia’s view of Vietnam as a key partner in Southeast Asia and offered DFAT assistance in connecting Vietnamese entities with Western Australian agencies and industry.

The meeting was highlighted alongside a broader set of statements from Vietnamese leaders that reaffirmed the country’s policy priorities, including a strict ban on forced labour, efforts to simplify administrative procedures, and ongoing security cooperation with Russia and regional partners such as Laos and Cambodia.
