Vietnamese Court Reviews Sentencing of Phuc Son Group Founder Nguyen Van Hau in Nha Trang Land Fraud

Vietnam's Central Military Court reopened the appeal hearing for Nguyen Van Hau, former chairman and majority shareholder of Phuc Son Group, over the alleged fraud involving the sale of land at the former Nha Trang airport. Prosecutors have asked that his 11‑year prison term, imposed by the lower court, not be increased, noting his admission of wrongdoing, his efforts to compensate victims, and the lack of aggravating circumstances.

The case concerns more than 800 investors who were sold plots in a project that lacked proper planning approval. The court ordered Hau to pay compensation exceeding 7 000 billion VND (about $300 million). Prosecutors also sought suspended sentences for two former generals who participated in the illegal land transfer and have already contributed over 4.5 billion VND toward restitution. Victims have called for a harsher penalty, arguing that the flow of investment funds was not clearly separated from the alleged fraud.

Hau has pledged to use over 2 000 properties and more than 46 billion VND to settle remaining liabilities within 90 days. The court will issue its final decision in a later session.
