Vietnamese deportees from the United States arrive in Ho Chi Minh City

On 4–5 August 2026, the Ho Chi Minh City Police, together with other functional units, received 47 Vietnamese citizens who had been deported from the United States. The arrivals took place at the Noi Bai International Airport and represent the largest intake of deported Vietnamese since the start of 2026. Most of the individuals had previously lived in Ho Chi Minh City before moving to the United States and were found to have violated U.S. immigration rules or other laws. The United States handed them over to Vietnam under existing bilateral cooperation agreements.

The reception was carried out in strict accordance with legal procedures, balancing foreign‑affairs requirements, public order, and the protection of the citizens’ rights. For those without family contacts, stable housing, or who are elderly or ill, the police will coordinate with local ward authorities and the Ho Chi Minh City Health Department to provide temporary social assistance. The police also warned Vietnamese abroad to fully understand and comply with the immigration and labor laws of host countries, avoid illegal entry or work, and maintain contact with Vietnamese diplomatic missions for support. The increase in deportations reflects a broader tightening of immigration enforcement by the United States and other nations.
