Vietnamese diaspora viewed as strategic resource for integration

Rachel Nguyen Isenschmid, Secretary General of the Swiss-Viet Economic Forum (SVEF), has highlighted the significance of Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW issued by the Vietnamese Politburo regarding overseas Vietnamese.

The resolution marks a strategic shift in how the Vietnamese government engages its diaspora. Rather than focusing solely on mobilization and gathering people, the new approach emphasizes accompanying overseas citizens by creating mechanisms and conditions for them to participate more deeply in the nation’s development.

Isenschmid noted that the diaspora should be viewed as a strategic resource and a bridge to the world. Beyond financial contributions, she emphasized that the community offers vital assets, including management expertise, scientific and technological knowledge, international networks, and the ability to connect Vietnam with global partners. This engagement allows overseas Vietnamese to contribute to their homeland’s growth and international integration without necessarily returning to live in the country.
