Vietnamese directors prepare for competitive 2027 Tet film season

The 2027 Tet film season in Vietnam is shaping up to be highly competitive, featuring three major directors who have previously achieved box office successes exceeding 200 billion VND.

Trấn Thành is set to release his drama-romance film ‘Em’, maintaining his tradition of releasing projects on the first day of the Lunar New Year. His previous works have generated significant revenue, totaling over 2,200 billion VND.

He will face competition from Victor Vũ, who is bringing the detective-period mystery ‘Thám tử Kiên: Lời nguyền hoàng kim’ to theaters, and Dương Minh Chiến, who is directing the action-martial arts film ‘Loạn thế: Nghĩa khí anh hùng’. This lineup marks a shift from previous years where Trấn Thành often dominated the market with little direct competition from high-budget filmmakers.
