Vietnamese dong climbs as US dollar falls after weak US June jobs report

On July 3 2026 Vietnam’s central bank lowered the reference rate for the US dollar by 2 đồng to 25,203 per USD and commercial banks reduced buying rates by 2‑10 đồng, reacting to a sharp drop in the dollar’s price after the US June jobs report showed only 57,000 jobs added, well below expectations, and unemployment fell to 4.2 %.\n\nTwo days later, on July 5 2026, the dong had turned higher. Vietcombank and ACB were buying USD around 26,073‑26,103 đồng and selling around 26,463 đồng, while the global USD‑Index rose modestly to about 100.88. During the same period, other foreign currencies such as the euro, pound sterling and yen appreciated against the dong.
