Vietnamese enterprises accelerate overseas investment
Vietnamese companies are increasingly expanding their global footprint through direct foreign investment. In the first nine months of 2026, registered and adjusted outward investment reached nearly $2.77 billion, more than doubling the $1.36 billion recorded for the entire year of 2025.
This surge indicates a strategic shift from merely exporting goods to establishing direct production, infrastructure, retail systems, and services in international markets. While Vietnam has long been a major export hub, much of its export turnover has historically been driven by foreign-invested enterprises. The current trend shows domestic firms moving to build their own brands and compete directly with international rivals.
While established players like Viettel, FPT, and Vinamilk have long pursued international opportunities, the 2025–2026 period has seen an acceleration across new sectors, with more large-scale enterprises investing in overseas manufacturing and service capabilities.
