Vietnamese film revenue declines sharply in Q3 2026

Vietnamese film revenue in the third quarter of 2026 has seen a significant decline compared to the same period in 2025. Total revenue reached over 492 billion VND as of September 24, a sharp drop from the approximately 1,311 billion VND recorded in the previous year. This decrease is attributed to a lack of massive blockbusters and changes in release schedules, such as the delay of “Sợi chỉ đỏ” to December.

Among the domestic releases, “Nghỉ hè sợ nghỉ hưu” by Huỳnh Lập was the highest earner, generating approximately 207 billion VND. Other notable performers include “Lên hương” with 84 billion VND and “Quý tử vượt giàu” with 59 billion VND. However, several recent releases have struggled significantly. The horror-comedy “Bóng Ma Nhà Hát,” starring Trâm Anh, has reported underwhelming results, earning only about 2 billion VND after its first week due to poor script quality and audience dissatisfaction.

Despite the overall revenue drop, the market shows genre diversity, including psychological, family, comedy, horror, and historical action. The concert film “Soobin Live Concert Movie: All-Rounder” also made a notable appearance, earning approximately 13 billion VND despite a limited number of screenings.
