On the full moon of the seventh lunar month (Rằm tháng 7), Vietnamese devotees are advised to bring simple, vegetarian offerings such as flowers, fruits, rice dishes and incense while avoiding meat and salty foods. Money and gold‑paper vases are to be placed only in designated spirit‑altar areas, not on the Buddha altar, and donations should be put in the charity box. Practitioners also follow specific guidance on receiving temple blessings (thú lộc) and observe customary etiquette, such as modest dress and respectful behavior.

Vietnamese families also honor their five generations of ancestors during this period. The practice involves lighting incense at the family altar, recalling the lineage of parents, grandparents, great‑grandparents and further forebears, and teaching younger members about gratitude and the continuity of the family.
