Vietnamese lottery companies report high profits and significant agent hospitality spending
Three lottery construction companies in Vietnam—Hau Giang, Soc Trang, and Can Tho—reported significant profits and high state budget contributions for the 2024-2025 period. Despite these profits, data from the State Audit reveals that these companies spent a combined 21.7 billion VND on hospitality and reception costs for lottery agents.
Hau Giang Lottery Construction Company recorded the highest hospitality expenditure at over 14 billion VND, averaging approximately 17.3 to 20.8 million VND per day. Soc Trang spent over 5.1 billion VND, while Can Tho spent over 2.6 billion VND. These expenses are viewed by some as a specific form of marketing to maintain agent relationships, which are vital to sales and profit.
In terms of financial performance, Hau Giang reported a pre-tax profit of over 710.4 billion VND, Soc Trang over 989.9 billion VND, and Can Tho nearly 941 billion VND. Looking toward 2026, Can Tho authorities have set a budget revenue target of 7,870 billion VND from lottery activities, with traditional lottery sales expected to comprise the majority of that figure.
