Vietnamese quiz show audience struggles with word meaning question

During a special episode of the game show ‘Ai Là Triệu Phú’ (Who Wants to Be a Millionaire), a question regarding the Vietnamese word ‘Bu’ resulted in a surprising outcome where 74% of the studio audience failed to select the correct answer.

The contestant, Saadi Salama, the Palestinian Ambassador to Vietnam, encountered the question at stage five. The question asked for the meaning of ‘Bu’ with four options: a type of lock, mother, a type of song, or a type of spice.

Despite using the ‘ask the audience’ lifeline, the studio audience was divided. Only 26% correctly identified the answer as ‘mother’, while the remaining votes were split among the other options, with ‘a type of song’ receiving the highest incorrect share at 28%.
