Vietnamese student Nguyen Hoang Phuong wins double silver at IMO, APMO

Eleventh‑grader Nguyen Hoang Phuong of Phan Boi Chau High School in Nghệ An province earned silver medals at both the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) and the Asia‑Pacific Mathematical Olympiad (APMO) in 2026. The IMO competition was held in Shanghai, China, and the Vietnamese team placed fifth overall.

On 7 August, provincial officials in Nghệ An held a ceremony to honor Phuong and other top students, presenting flowers and gifts. Phuong thanked teachers, family and the province for their support, saying the achievement was both a source of pride and motivation. Teachers highlighted the years of intensive preparation behind the medals.
