Vietnamese Summer Foods Chives Leaf and Persimmon Offer Digestive and Immune Benefits

Chives leaf (lá hẹ), a common Vietnamese kitchen herb, is highlighted for its high fiber, vitamins A, C, K, folate, potassium and natural sulfur compounds. Nutrition experts say the fiber promotes bowel movement and helps prevent constipation, while the antioxidants support immune function and may aid liver health when part of a balanced diet. The leaf is recommended for daily meals such as stir‑fries, soups or as a garnish, but it is not a cure‑all for liver disease.

Persimmon (thị), a yellow, juicy fruit popular in late summer, contains mostly water, glucose, protein, cellulose, tannins and a small amount of fat. Traditional uses include topical treatment for facial blemishes, deworming, and home remedies for snakebite, fever, nausea and insomnia. Health advice stresses eating only ripe fruit, consuming it in moderation, and avoiding consumption on an empty stomach to prevent digestive discomfort. Both foods are presented as nutritious additions to the Vietnamese summer diet when eaten responsibly.
