Vietnamese TBAGRI delivers first locally produced rice batch in Cuba
On August 4, TBAGRI Agriculture Corporation handed over the first rice lot produced on Cuban soil to local partner GRANMAX. The delivery comprised 470,099 tonnes of the OM5451 rice variety, processed from 940,199 tonnes of fresh paddy harvested in Granma province. The ceremony was attended by Vietnam’s ambassador to Cuba, Lê Quang Long, and Cuban Agriculture Deputy Minister Telce Abdel González Mora, among other officials.
The pilot phase of a 25‑year, 25,000‑hectare rice value‑chain project began in 2025, with an initial 360‑hectare trial in Granma. TBAGRI applied modern Mekong Delta cultivation methods and International Rice Research Institute standards, achieving yields above 7 t/ha. The initiative aims to transfer technology, boost local production capacity, and establish a sustainable rice supply chain in Cuba.
