Vietnamese traditions for lunar month offerings

In Vietnamese folk tradition, the first day of the lunar month is a time for families to prepare offerings for ancestors to pray for peace and harmony in the coming month. While not mandatory rules, certain foods are traditionally chosen for their symbolic meanings.

Red gac sticky rice is often used to represent luck and favorable beginnings due to its vibrant color. A whole boiled chicken is another common offering, symbolizing completeness, abundance, and family togetherness. Additionally, steamed fish with ginger is frequently prepared to represent a smooth life and fulfillment.
