Vietnamese Vegan Restaurant 'An' Opens in Karlsruhe, Germany

On July 24, the family‑run Vietnamese restaurant "An" opened on Kaiserstraße in Karlsruhe, opposite the KIT campus. The establishment focuses exclusively on vegan Vietnamese dishes, deliberately avoiding imitation of meat or fish.

The 23‑year‑old manager and student Hai Dong Nguyen, who previously worked in a Pforzheim restaurant, leads the venture. Nguyen says the menu draws on authentic recipes he sourced during trips to Vietnam, many of which were purchased directly from local cooks. The concept aims to fill a niche for plant‑based Southeast Asian cuisine, and early customers—including non‑vegans—have responded positively.
