Vietnam's 44th National Table Tennis Championship opens in Haiphong

The 44th edition of the Báo Nhân Dân National Table Tennis Championship, part of the 10th National Sports Festival 2026, began with a press conference on 31 July and will run from 8 August to 16 August at the Haiphong Sports Center. Organized by Báo Nhân Dân in cooperation with the Vietnam Sports Administration, the Haiphong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Vietnam Table Tennis Federation, the tournament features 14 provincial and sector teams, including the army and police, with nearly 140 elite athletes.

Competitors will contest seven events – men’s and women’s team, singles, doubles and mixed doubles – under a Swaythling format for team rounds and best‑of‑five (or best‑of‑seven for finals) for individual matches. Prize money totals about 500 million VND, with 50 million VND awarded to each winning team and 30 million VND to each singles champion. Officials highlighted the tournament’s role in promoting table tennis nationwide, evaluating athlete performance, and selecting players for future international competitions.
