Vietnam's An Giang Province speeds up power and airport projects for APEC 2027

The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and officials of An Giang province met on July 27 to accelerate the construction of power infrastructure needed for the 2027 APEC summit. The province currently receives electricity from four 220 kV substations and three solar farms totaling 290 MW. Anticipated load growth will push peak demand to about 1,207 MW by 2027. Key projects include a new 220 kV Phú Quốc substation and 110 kV transmission lines linking Phú Quốc to the mainland, with plans for 41 additional 110 kV lines through 2030. Officials stressed the need to resolve land‑acquisition and compensation issues to keep work on schedule.

Deputy Party Secretary Đinh Văn Nơi, also the Party chief of Phú Quốc, inspected the expansion of Phú Quốc International Airport, urging that construction proceed quickly but safely, with attention to drainage to avoid flooding. Workers have been operating night shifts despite heavy rain, and the new runway 2 (approximately 3,300 m long) is now operational, easing peak‑tourism pressure and supporting APEC‑related travel. The authorities pledged immediate assistance for any on‑site problems and emphasized maintaining international‑standard quality.
