Vietnam's tilapia export value reached US$69.4 million in the first half of 2026, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP). Brazil became the fastest‑growing market, accounting for US$34.9 million – more than half of the total – and showing a 289‑fold increase compared with the same period in 2025. VASEP noted that Brazil spent nearly US$35 million on Vietnamese tilapia in 2026, driving the sharp export growth.

Vietnam produced roughly 420,000 tonnes of tilapia in 2025 and has been expanding seed production, feed manufacturing and processing capacity. Export values rose from about US$41 million in 2024 to US$99.3 million in 2025, with the H1 2026 figure indicating continued momentum. A domestic seafood producer shipped its first consignment of tilapia fillets to Japan for sushi and sashimi, marking the sector's entry into higher‑value markets alongside ongoing sales to the United States, Canada, the EU, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America.
