Vietnam's BIDV warns customers of sophisticated fraud schemes

Vietnamese state-owned bank BIDV has issued a nationwide alert about increasingly complex fraud tactics targeting its customers. Scammers are impersonating government officials, bank staff, and delivery personnel to coax victims into making small test transfers, often around 10,000 VND, before extracting larger sums from accounts they control.

The bank highlights common ploys such as false claims of account verification, social‑welfare program linkage, fake prize notifications, and urgent requests to unlock accounts. Attackers frequently send counterfeit links that harvest personal data and login credentials, and may later pose as lawyers or cybersecurity experts to demand fees for “recovering” lost funds. BIDV advises users to verify any requests through official channels, avoid clicking unknown links, never share OTP codes, and treat unsolicited calls or messages with extreme caution.
