Four-vehicle crash on Vietnam’s Bảo Lộc Pass blocks traffic, container lifted from gorge

On the night of 20 June, a container truck carrying dozens of tonnes of potatoes collided with two passenger cars and a lorry on the steep curve of the Bảo Lộc Pass (National Route 20) in Lâm Đồng province, Vietnam. The impact sent the 40‑foot container and a small car down a gorge about 20‑30 m deep, injuring the vehicles and trapping them among trees. More than ten occupants were on the vehicles, but no one was killed.

Rescue crews from the provincial authorities deployed a 200‑ton crane and other equipment to lift the container back onto the road, a process that continued through the early morning of 21 June. Traffic on the two‑lane highway was heavily congested, with queues extending over 10 km, and only began to flow normally after the container was retrieved and the crash scene cleared around midday. The incident caused severe vehicle damage but resulted in no fatalities.
