Vietnam's Ethnic Culture Village Hosts Khmer Heritage Festival in Hanoi

From 1 to 28 August, the Vietnam Ethnic Culture Village in Hanoi staged a month‑long program titled “Returning to the West through Khmer Culture.” More than 100 participants from 16 ethnic groups and 11 localities, together with about 30 Khmer and Kinh artisans and performers from Can Thơ, recreated daily life, traditional crafts and music of the Khmer community of the Mekong Delta.

Highlights included a reenactment of the Thăk Côn festival – a nationally recognised intangible cultural heritage of the Khmer people – on 22‑23 August, traditional Khmer dances, folk music, and food tastings such as bánh xèo and bánh cống. The event offered visitors a broad exposure to the customs, beliefs and artistic expressions of Vietnam’s 54 ethnic groups, especially those from the western region.
