Vietnam's firms pivot to tech exports as customs reforms target agricultural trade growth

Vietnamese companies are increasingly exporting technology and knowledge rather than just products. Leaders such as VinFast, FPT and Viettel are investing in research, artificial intelligence, 5G infrastructure and digital platforms to compete internationally, signalling a shift toward higher‑value activities in the global innovation ecosystem.

At the same time, the Vietnamese Customs Authority is proposing reforms to simplify import procedures for raw materials used in agricultural processing. With export targets of US$74‑75 billion this year and US$100 billion next year, the agency aims to digitise documentation, streamline permits, and cooperate with partners such as China to create smart ports and a single‑window system, thereby supporting the sector’s growth.
