Vietnam's first three universities register for elite status
Vietnam's Ministry of Education and Training has announced that three institutions—two National Universities and VinUni—are the first to register to become elite universities. This initiative aims to establish a group of 3–5 elite universities to drive national strategy, alongside 25–30 key regional and sectoral institutions.
According to Deputy Minister Le Quan, the elite model is intended to act as a nucleus to enhance the quality and competitiveness of the entire higher education system rather than replacing mass education. The strategy includes focusing public investment on doctoral training, strategic technology personnel, and the development of key laboratories and excellence centers at both national and international levels.
Key focus areas for the development include STEM talent training, digital transformation, and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI). The ministry also plans to implement special mechanisms to attract leading professors and international experts, while strengthening cooperation between universities, businesses, and research institutes.
